How to wire 3 dual 1 ohm subs to 1.5 ohm

To wire 3 dual 1 ohm subs to 1.5 Ω: Each sub’s two coils in parallel: 0.5 Ω per sub. Subs in series.
The other final loads these subs can make: 0.17 Ω, 0.67 Ω, 6 Ω.
1.5 Ω: Each sub’s two coils in parallel: 0.5 Ω per sub. Subs in series.

Which amps can run 1.5 Ω?

Which amps can run 1.5 Ω?
AmpOK at this load?
0.5 ohm stableYes
1 ohm stableYes
2 ohm stableNo: below its minimum
4 ohm stableNo: below its minimum

Step by step

On each sub, join A + to B + and A − to B −.
Amp + to sub 1 +, sub 1 − to sub 2 +, and so on; the last sub’s − goes to amp −.

Reading the diagram

Each box is one voice coil. Wires that meet are joined; use proper terminals, not twisted wire and tape.
Left side of each coil box is its + terminal. 1A = sub 1, coil A.
Nominal loads: the real impedance rises in the box and with frequency. Only balanced layouts are shown, where every sub gets the same power.

Frequently asked questions

Can 3 dual 1 ohm subs be wired to 1.5 ohm?

To wire 3 dual 1 ohm subs to 1.5 Ω: Each sub’s two coils in parallel: 0.5 Ω per sub. Subs in series.

What loads can 3 dual 1 ohm subs make?

With balanced wiring: 0.17 Ω, 0.67 Ω, 1.5 Ω, 6 Ω.

Will my amp handle 1.5 ohm?

Only if its manual says it is stable at 1.5 Ω or lower. Below that it runs hot, goes into protect or fails.
